Street scape is a term to define the appearance or view of street and quality of it.It usually consist of street and sidewalk surface,buildings and furnishings like signage,light,benches and etc. A suitable street scape should provide social interaction and high economic opportunities and encourage people to walking and cycling to improve health .In the other words bring vitality to the area .Furthermore it should be easy to repair,long lasting,beautiful and functional.
Each element of street scape has it's own features to improve the quality of area:
1.Side walks: a suitable sidewalk is safe and big enough to walk and have outdoor cafe'.It also should have benches,lighting for both safety and beauty,trash receptacles,bicycle racks,signage and bus shelter.
2.Street corners: street corner is a place that people wait to cross the street.It is a suitable area for people to have social interaction.A good street corner provade safety for pedestrian and it is short to cross.
3.Trees and small gardens:green areas in street play an important role in visual effects and beauty.Small gardens act as barrier between street and walkways and help pedestrians to be safe.they also decrease the street pollution.
4.Planter:Also could be consider as green space to improve the beauty and in some cases could be use to show the entrance of a certain building or to define the edge of parking lot.
5.Medians:This element make streets more safe and pedestrian friendly.It could also have trees and small garden to clean the air and improve the appearance of the street.
6.Curbs: These edges distinguish street from sidewalks and bring safety for pedestrians.
7.Cross walks:when the material of this element is different from the street,drivers decrease speed.Therefore it could help to improve safety.
